PASSION OF  CHRIST

Frankly, when somebody asked me to compose some music for a public religious performance I felt really perplexed .

I was thinking about those religious procession which take place normally in Easten period all around the country and therefore I could not imagine how such performance could take benefit from my music.

Nevertheless I watched the video tape of the ceremony and I was really thrilled and amazed. The scenes were so beautiful, all committed people worked so hard and good, the costumes meticulously realised by artisan hands, the lights, the direction and the fantastic scenery of the Odescalchi Castle...because of all these things I changed my mind...

John Sposito

In 1976 some friends from Bracciano decided to realise an historic-religious performance of the "Passion of Christ".

They involved in the project the "Rione Monti" (a Bracciano neighbourhood) which enthusiasticly accepted to support technically and financially the project. Sixteen characters, three technicians, poor means ,but a lot of enthusiasm and much more good will.

This way one of the most important and lasting Bracciano traditions was born.

In the course of the years the "Passion of Christ" performance evolves and with it the decision to realise the costumes directly in order to avoid the high costs of the hiring.

Shortly the Rione people set up a theatre tailoring and a laboratory for the manufacturing of cuirasses, helmets, shields, lances, daggers, shoes and everything necessary to a production becoming bigger and important. Today the Rione Monti is owner of all the costumes: 50 among centurions, legionaries and horse guards, almost 50 among citizens, Erode guards and Sinedrio priests and the rich costumes of the main characters.

With the same endeavour have been realised afterwards stages and scaffoldings.

A modular and adjustable 144 sq. m. stage and a ring (lights trellis) of 12 x 12 x 7 height metres, are part of the patrimony of the Rione Monti which constantly has tried to render self-sufficient the Good Friday commemoration.
